"Breakfast in America" Morning

Mtendere Children´s Village, Malawi

The children at Mtendere Children´s Village are developing strong ties with members of visiting teams from America. Whether it is an Alabama sweat shirt, a soccer ball from Colorado or California, or a teacup from another visiting "azungu" (white person) the children treasure these links with America.

During a visit of Americans one Saturday morning was designated "Kellogg Morning" by the American teams. Boxes of cold cereals with names like "Fruit Loops", "Raisin Bran", "Corn Flakes", and "Shredded Wheat" took the place of the traditional morning meal of nsima. Powered milk from America helped to accent the good taste of the American breakfast. The "breakfast" was held in the Chris Blanchard community center on the grounds of the Mtendere Children´s Village. Teams from California, Florida, Indiana and Texas participated in the event with the children from the first seven houses of Mtendere.

That afternoon, Dan McKnight of Abilene, Texas, took a number of the children up to one of the Blessings warehouses to help build wheelchairs for distribution to the handicapped.
